TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is a test for aspirants who want to study abroad and
get some international experience. All students whose first language isn’t English must take this exam.
People besides students take the TOEFL exam because it’s required for getting a visa. The TOEFL exam is
for people who’ve finished high school or equivalent.
The ETS, the company that runs the TOEFL exam, hasn’t set any specific eligibility criteria for the test,
not even any age limit. It’s mostly given to students who want to get into English-speaking colleges or
universities. Universities in the U.S. and Canada require students to prove their English proficiency
before they are admitted.
It is important that you check the requirements of the college/university you are applying to, since it is
an English test. This test has four parts: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The candidates’ scores
are averaged to 120.
Types of TOEFL exams:
a) TOEFL-iBT (internet Based test)
b) TOEFL-PBT (Paper Based test)
c) TOEFL-ITP (Institutional Testing Program (ITP)
You should know that the TOEFL-iBT is used by colleges and universities to make high-stakes decisions,
such as whether to admit a student, while the TOEFL-ITP tests are used for initial screening, and are
most often used with students who have already been admitted.
